What is UNILAG ICE?

The Institute of Continuing Education (ICE) is an alternative academic pathway run directly by the University of Lagos. It is explicitly designed for working professionals, entrepreneurs, and students who require flexible learning schedules.

Unlike regular undergraduate tracks, ICE offers classes during weekends or evening periods, as well as specialised vacation blocks for its sandwich tracks. The degree awarded upon graduation carries the exact same academic weight and prestige as those given to regular full-time students.

If you are also considering distance learning models, it helps to look into how this program compares structurally to other flexible options, such as the NOUN course registration process to find the perfect fit for your weekly schedule.

Available Faculties and Programmes (2026/2027)

UNILAG ICE programmes are hosted across several prominent faculties within the Akoka main campus. For this academic session, you can apply for Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) or Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degrees in the following fields:

  • Faculty of Arts: History and Strategic Studies, Creative Arts (Music, Theatre Arts, Visual Arts), English, French, and Philosophy.

  • Faculty of Management Sciences: Actuarial Science, Insurance, and Employment Relations & Human Resource Management (ER&HRM).

  • Faculty of Social Sciences: Mass Communication, Psychology, Social Work, and Sociology.

  • Faculty of Physical and Earth Sciences: Industrial Mathematics and Statistics.

  • Faculty of Education (Sandwich Programmes): Adult Education, Guidance & Counselling, Educational Administration, Human Kinetics & Health Education, Science Education (Biology, Chemistry, Maths), and Technology & Vocational Education.

Admission Requirements

To qualify for the UNILAG ICE admission screening, you must satisfy specific parameters depending on your chosen entry point:

1. O'Level Requirements (5-Year Programme)

  • You must possess at least five (5) O'Level credit passes in relevant subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, obtained at not more than two sittings.

  • Note: Specific departmental cross-requisites apply (e.g., Management Sciences require a credit in Economics).

2. Direct Entry Requirements (4-Year or 3-Year Programme)

  • 4-Year Track: Candidates must hold a merit-grade pass in a related Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) or an Ordinary National Diploma (OND).

  • 3-Year Track: Candidates must possess a Higher National Diploma (HND) or a Bachelor’s Degree in a related discipline alongside a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) for teaching tracks.

3. The JAMB Requirement

While you do not need to sit for the standard UTME examination, all ICE candidates must register on the JAMB Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) portal to secure a part-time/sandwich JAMB registration number. This ensures your final admission is properly validated on the national database. If you need a refresher on adjusting your profile options for this step, checking a guide on how to link email to JAMB profile will clarify how to track your status notifications safely.

Cost of UNILAG ICE Application Form

The application processing fee consists of two main components:

  1. UNILAG Form Fee: ₦15,000 (payable via the Remita platform using the Treasury Single Account system).

  2. JAMB Part-Time Registration Fee: Standard statutory fee payable on the JAMB portal to generate your mandatory registration profile number.

Step-by-Step Application Guide

1.Secure your JAMB Profile Number:Prerequisite Stage.

Log into the official JAMB portal and register under the Part-Time/Continuing Education platform. Do not sit for the UTME exam; simply complete the profile to generate your unique JAMB registration number.

2.Generate UNILAG Payment Advice:

Visit the official UNILAG application portal at applications.unilag.edu.ng. Click on "Start Fresh Application", select ICE as your application type, and input your primary bio-data (Name, Mobile Number, and Email).

3.Complete Online Remita Payment:Processing Fee Validation.

Click "Pay Now" to process the ₦15,000 fee online, or print the generated Payment Advice containing your unique Remita Retrieval Reference (RRR) number to pay at any commercial bank branch.

4.Fill and Submit the Application Form:Data Upload.

Return to applications.unilag.edu.ng after payment. Click "Continue Application", use your payment reference number as username and your surname (in lower case) as password. Upload your O'Level/Direct Entry credentials, fill out the forms completely, and submit.

5.Print and Submit Physical Copies:Final Verification Stage.

Print two (2) distinct colour copies of your completed application form. Submit one hard copy to the specific Department you applied to and the second copy to the main ICE Office located on the Top Floor of the UNILAG Bookshop Building.

Screening and Entrance Examination Dates

Admission into UNILAG ICE is not automatic; candidates are required to write a qualifying entrance examination covering English Language and General Paper (with Mathematics included for Management Science candidates).

For the 2026/2027 academic session, keep these official dates marked on your schedule:

  • Sandwich Programmes Exam: Saturday, May 30, 2026 (Completed) / Supplementary batches are announced periodically via the department.

  • Other ICE Programmes (Arts, Social Sciences, Management, Science): Saturday, August 29, 2026.

  • Reporting Time: 7:45 AM prompt at your designated faculty hall. You must bring a colour print of your application form to clear security.

Pro-Tip for Applicants: Keep an eye out for updates regarding admission letters, which are typically ready for collection at the ICE office within two weeks following the conclusion of your entrance screening exam. For those looking at a wider net of flexible academic pathways across Nigeria, comparing these timelines with the NOUN admission requirements can give you a strong backup strategy for the academic year.
